David Elphinstone

David Elphinstone

Since starting as a trainee accountant with the firm in 1996, David worked his way up the firm ranks whilst studying his CPA qualifications which he gained in 2005. In 2008 he became a partner in the firm and in 2011 he became the sole owner and director of the firm.
David comes from a farming background and has a continued keen interest in the agriculture sector which has proved a unique asset for agri-business clients. With a motivation for staying on top of changing business environments, David will assist your business to be proactive rather than reactive.
David has a keen participation in the business community as an active member of the Burnie Chamber of Commerce. In his spare time David enjoys spending time with his young family at his shack at Hellyer Beach and is an avid outdoor man enjoying camping, walking, four-wheel driving and most sports.
Melissa Furphy

Melissa Furphy

Senior Accountant - CPA B.Bus

Melissa is often out on the road, visiting business clients at their homes or business premises, especially during quarterly BAS preparation time. Melissa grew up in Smithton and thoroughly enjoys visiting our Smithton office and seeing the Community continue to develop. She is also our West Coast contact, currently making the trip to Queenstown, Zeehan and Rosebery each quarter. Going out and understanding clients business operations is something Melissa feels quite strongly about, particularly when it comes to understanding their software needs.

Outside of work, Melissa enjoys playing local basketball and travelling around our beautiful state; supporting small businesses along the way.

Mathew Munday

With over 20 years in public practice, Mathew is one of our Senior Accountants. Working closely with our clients he offers guidance and support to help find the best outcome for your taxation and compliance needs. Mathew also has extensive experience with Xero.

Mathew is a keen bushwalker away from the office and enjoys spending time with his family.

Reuben Reimers

After growing up in various remote areas of Australia, Reuben now lives locally, and was welcomed onto the Elphinstone Stevens’ team in July 2022. His role in the firm includes assisting in preparation of Financial Statements, Income Tax returns, and Business Activity Statements as well as assisting with client’s SMSF administration. He enjoys meeting small and large business owners, and is enthusiastic about involvement in the local business community.

Currently studying a Bachelor of Accounting online through the University of New England, Reuben is eager to graduate and intends to complete further studies. When not working or studying, Reuben can usually be found tinkering with electronics, playing Ultimate Frisbee, or spending quality time with his many family members.

Avijit Roy (Avi)

Originally from Bangladesh, Avi moved to Tassie after spending 9 years in Sydney. Having joined our team in early 2023, with 4-years prior accounting under his belt, Avi is enjoying continuing his professional development particularly in the Self-Managed Super fund space. You may hear from Avi in relation to your own SMSF administration.

Out of the office Avi is a devoted fan of the Australian Cricket Team and also enjoys playing a good game whenever he gets the chance. As a member of the local Eightball Association, Avi also enjoys a game of Billiards and competes regularly in various tournaments around the state.

Leanne Kelly

Completing her Masters of Commerce (Professional Accounting) in 2018, Leanne has over 15 years of accounting and bookkeeping experience and has extensive knowledge with Xero. Leanne assists with quarterly and year end financials and reporting, as well as tax planning, income tax returns and BAS preparation.

Her happy place is outside tending her garden or working on upcycling projects. She loves being with her family especially her growing grandchildren and enjoys cooking for them. Her newest passion for baking is Artisan bread. Leanne is looking forward to where she can spend more time traveling around our beautiful state and country.

Mathew Cameron

Mathew joined the team at Elphinstone Stevens in January 2023 after returning home from 5 months of travelling around South East Asia.

Mathew graduated from Monash University in Melbourne with a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in accounting, where he then worked in a similar accounting role to his current one for 9 months.

His role at ELST includes assisting the team with the preparation of financial statements, income tax returns, tax planning & business activity statements.

Mathew dabbles a bit with investing, jumps at the chance for oversea travel and enjoys hiking & mountain biking around the state.

Philippa Kearney

Pip grew up on a mixed farming operation near Deloraine consisting of dairy, sheep, beef, cropping and contracting. With a young family Pip gained her Accounting Qualifications and has worked in public practice and finance broking since. Joining our team in January 2023, her role includes assisting with preparation of financial statements, income tax returns and BAS’s.

Outside of work, Pip assists her family in operating a mixed farming enterprise growing crops and fattening beef cattle. She also finds time to help her hubbie with his Rotary community activities.

Mel Bland

On returning home to Tasmania after nearly 7 years living and working in Queensland, Mel joined our team in February 2019. With an accounting background, Mel is the office guru. She is our administration support and receptionist, greeting you on the telephone and welcoming you when you call in to our Burnie office.

Away from the office, Mel is a keen gardener, loves to cook, and enjoys quality time with her family. She also spends time exploring and enjoying Tasmania’s spectacular rainforests, bushlands, and coastlines particularly through the West Coast areas.
